Trekers on the Trail

We’ve met some particularly awesome people out here on the trail.

“Roc Ocean” (@ www.rockocean.com) we met at Fontana dam…he’s driving his old blue VW camper up the AT assisting all hikers. A true man of service, he has no charges for his services- shuttling hikers to and from town, sending mail, looking after dogs!, holding equipment, anything really- all he looks for is cool people and a genuine smile…or something like that. A super cool cat; a photographer also. Look him up, he is paying for his own gas and is a righteous dude who is very much deserving of a favor, considering everything he does.

Novel, “Lone Star”, is a guy from Charlotte, Texas. He’s a marathoner and a true person of endurance. After 9/11, he biked an American flag from Texas to NY and delivered it to the fire-fighters up there. Another man of service…. a rock and solid place for many people to draw inspiration. A lesson I got from him: You can do anything you set your mind to, believe in your self, see truth and own it!

These people out here are awesome. For some reason, we talk to more people on the trail than in the city….strange how it works.

Gatlinburg 4.24.12

Wow, this place is nuts. This day, Tuesday the 24rd, marks 3 weeks on the AT. We’ve hiked 206.8 miles and seen forests of trees pass by the trail side, and miles and miles of earth pass beneath our feet- the most I have ever seen in this life. A freak cold weather system from the North East drove us into town, where we experienced even more freakiness. The solitude and simplicity of trail life is unbelievably contrasted by the amusement park that is Gatlinburg. Within a 25 ft. walk on the main drag, one might encounter a moonshine store, an optical illusion museum, glow in the dark put-put, a haunted building attraction, an arcade, an ol’-timey “git yurr piturr made” stand, and countless other indefinable eye grabbers. Whaooo. Personally, I find the variety of green, brown, and knotty trees more appealing…but that’s just me. Without care, one might find all of one’s wallet completely drained within an hour (ain’t no place for a poor hiker, professional homeless; ))

But the weather is nasty, so we stay the night and enjoy the wildness that is before us. At a local family buffet, we eat our fill and some and with a comatose stupor, hike to The Grand Prix Motel to stay the night. Bit of recommendation, do NOT try and buckle a waist belt supporting 30+ pounds on a stuffed stomach. Good feelings will not follow!!!

Hope to be boogying on the move again soon. After 3 weeks, I think I’ve developed an “itch”, and not just from the bug bites.

I picked up A Wrinkle In Time at a drop box at the Grand Prix. Here’s a quote from Anne Quindlen on A Wrinkle:

“Conformity knows no time or place, it is the struggle all of us face, to be ourselves despite the overwhelming pressure to be like everyone else….

Mrs Whatsit tells the children that life, with its rules, its obligations, and its freedoms, is like a sonnet: ‘You’re given the form, but you have to write the sonnet yourself. What you say is completely up to you.’”

Today, here’s what I have to say:

Brother! I see us pinned against each other in ways that defy our very being! Our potential is ultimate and unlimited. We can BE, THINK, and ACT, in which ever way we choose.

Brothers, your struggles are the same as mine; you are the same as me. We can define the value of our life with love, community, and consciousness…collectively.

My Brothers, these complex problems can be simple. We can act as united.

Yes, you can be good to your spirit.

Together, we can be.

Thinking about Charlie every day.

time

Ay, I’ve never written a blog before but this is a perfect time to start one. We’ll be in and out of towns, I hope to journal and transcribe to this blog whenever the chance is made available.

here’s a lil bout me:

my birthday is March 23rd, 1991

the elements here are fire and water.

writing is good; it flows like water

and drumming comes out like fire

Charlie taught me a lot, he always had my back

somehow, We are pinned against each-other. harmony/community are always within reach…We are learning, “figuring it out”

I like to watch for owls and take heed.

A wise one said: look, the animals; do as they do.

And God breathed life into Man, so we breath it, in and out

And Jesus says: chop down the tree that bares no fruit; so we bring it to each other, our fruits

Breath in exhalation becomes that which surrounds the body; it is manifestation

So, my brothers, we bless you with our deepest breath… with water as well, Life’s elixir

learn; change.

Learn Change.

there is so much to be learned. Allow: egolessness, presence, teaching, studentry, service, leadership. A wise old owl…who? who? ;)

The secret to sucess is constancy to purpose
